Picasso auction postponed: art as a crime novel

Posted by nelina.kapetsoni in December 11, 2010

News that an auction of Picasso’s works, given by the artist to his late chauffeur, would be postponed, would not normally be a big deal. Auctions get postponed from time to time. The back story for this decision however, could be part of an Agatha Christie novel. An electrician connected to Picasso’s chauffeur and therefore one of the six people to receive money from the auction, is now suspect of theft! The police discovered in his possession a great amount of works by Picasso. He claims the artist gave them to him. Picasso’s family disagrees saying that Picasso would never gift so many works to just one person. Pierre Le Guennec worked for the artist for a few years before Picasso’s death in 1973 installing burglar alarms to several of the artist’s homes.
